Amnesty Absences

Amnesty International Uruguay partnered with Lowe Gingko and photographer Gustavo Germano to run an award-winning print and outdoor advertising campaign, “Absences”, raising awareness of the impact of state-sanctioned murders thirty years on. Gustavo Germano has been running “Ausencias“, a photographic exhibition of photographs featuring the surviving family members recreating scenes in which their loved ones were present years before. The project was inspired by Gustavo’s own experience of having a brother kidnapped, tortured and murdered by the Argentine Army and Police of the Province of Santa Fe. The Amnesty campaign, Omar, Eduardo, Claudio, Roberto, with the word, “Recordamos” (We Remember), won a Gold Press Lion and a Gold Outdoor Lion and was shortlisted for Grand Prix for Good at Cannes International Festival of Creativity.

Project 0 Views: A video we should stop seeing

Amnesty International Uruguay is running “Project 0 Views“, a campaign designed to raise awareness of the violation of rights experienced by many women at the moment of birth. The campaign features a video shown from the perspective of a woman in hospital, surrounded by professionals who push her into procedures without regard for her rights. The site, (ceroviews.com.uy), features a regressive view-counter, started at 44000 views, the same number as yearly births in Uruguay. Each time someone sees the full video, the counter loses 1 view. Amnesty International Uruguay is aiming at getting down to 0. The site includes a declaration of principles and a list of rights of women in association with reproductive health.

Greg Fay, a British film director, has produced “El Secret de Mateo” (Matthew’s Secret) for the Philips Cinema Project produced in association with Ridley Scott Associates (RSA Films). Each of the five films chosen by Philips features a handful of spoken lines in common. “What’s that?” “It’s a unicorn”. “I’ve never seen one up close before”. “Beautiful”. “Get away! Get away!” “I’m sorry”. In this case the lines are spoken in Spanish. A boy leads his little sister, who appears to be blind, up into a residential building to discover his secret, a unicorn.
