Al Manzil School Conversations

Children with special needs struggle to communicate. The children at the Al Manzil School for special needs in Dubai were trying to reach out to the world through beautiful paintings. Conversations, an exhibition of their paintings, gave them a platform to establish a dialogue with the world while giving an opportunity to the world to communicate back. A simple device enabled people to listen to what the child had to say, and then record their response, thus completing the conversation. An integrated communication approach using different mediums raised awareness. A Facebook app allowed the conversations to continue well beyond the event. As a result, the event raised over 225,000 dirhams. The real reward came in the form of joy and happiness the children felt when they heard those priceless words of encouragement. Conversations is now a permanent platform that will continue to showcase the artistic talents of these children, making them feel EXCEPTIONAL rather than an exception.

TED X Human Arabesque

“The Human Arabesque”, an experimental film and photography project, has been nominated for Yellow Pencil for Film Craft (direction) at the D&AD Awards. The film, developed as part of The Power of X campaign, was used to open the inaugural TEDxSUMMIT, hosted by Doha Film institute. The X in the summit logo is humanized to represent the self proclaimed global ‘TEDxer’ community. TEDx is mashed up with Qatar’s Middle Eastern culture, with inspiration was drawn from the traditional Arabesque patterns of in Qatari art.

Harvey Nichols Pelicans

“Pelicans”, a print advertisement for Harvey Nichols in Dubai, has won Gold award at the International Andy Awards held this week. A huge pod of pelicans gathers around one fish. One version has just the date. “June 1″. Another goes further to connect the Part Sale with the recommendation, “Prepare to attack”. “The concept is a fun, fresher take on the Harvey Nichols Part Sale, one that bring exciting images to your mind on the incredible mayhem that will ensue. The dresses/suits have become more affordable. And metaphorically, it is like a plate of freshly poached salmon in the line of sight of hungry pelicans. You can imagine what’s going to happen next”.

Harvey Nichols Elephant vs Rhino

Harvey Nichols 2012 Autumn / Winter Collection for men was promoted with a print advertising campaign featuring an elephant and rhino. “Maximum impact” refers to the effect provided by wearing the new clothing range. The ad won Gold for illustration at the 2013 Andy Awards held in London this week.

Land Rover Personal Extinction Prevention

Land Rover MENA’s Personal Extinction Prevention Book won the Grand Prix for Design at the Dubai Lynx Awards recently. Land Rover wanted to give their existing and prospective customers something that they could keep with them at all times, smething that would be useful in the wild and promote the classic adventurous spirit of Land Rover owners. Whilst a Land Rover can take on any obstacle it faces, once their drivers step out of their vehicles, they are on their own. The Personal Extinction Prevention Book not only gives tips to survive against dangerous animals, but also actively protects its owner. Each page is a resealable packet that contains wet wipes coated with natural oils or an everyday ingredient that will repel or neutralize dangerous creatures.
