Kohls at the Oscars
US department store chain Kohl’s made the most of their sponsorship of the Academy Awards broadcast this year with “Kohls at The Oscars”. A live Periscope Oscars Party was supplemented with four Kohls at the Oscars commercials in which family members lip sync acceptance speeches from from previous award ceremonies. in “Movie Night” a man marks his gratitude to his family for control of the TV remote control by reproducing Cuba Gooding Jr.’s 1997 acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor in Jerry Maguire. In “Duchess” a woman expresses her delight at being invited by her young daughter to a special banquet, reproducing Penelope Cruz’s Best Supporting Actress speech for Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2009. In “Sleepover” a boy expresses his excitement at his friend Scott being given the green light for a sleepover by playing out Jeff Bridges’s 2009 acceptance speech for Best Actor in Crazy Heart. In “Front Seat” a girl, promoted by her brother to the car’s front seat, launches into Whoopi Goldberg’s 1990 acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress in Ghost. Each commercial ends with the band’s music and an encouragement to “share your thanks live at @Kohl’s”.
The Kohls at the Oscars campaign was developed at Anomaly, New York, by creative directors Brian and Jared, and producer Amy Bonin.
