The Wolf of Wall Street – award winning trailer

The trailer for the latest Scorsese picture, The Wolf of Wall Street, won the Grand Key Art Award this year, the highest award for film promotion. The Key Art Awards is essentially the Oscars for films, or the CLIO’S for commercial advertising. The song that keeps the intensity inflamed throughout is “Black Skinhead” by Kanye West. Two years ago The Social Network won best picture, and the song for that trailer was by Kanye West. The Wolf of Wall Street, to be released on Christmas Day, tells the story of Jordan Belfort, a young millionaire Wall Street employee played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Belfort, just like Kanye West and just like Mark Zuckerburg, has been accused of being a bit egocentric and greedy. They all have also been accused of being winners.

Like most of Scorsese’s films, this one looks like it will glorify the most exciting of criminal lives. This time, thankfully, it is about the true lives of the hedonist blue collar criminals of Wall Street in the 1990s. Advertising the highlights of Jordan Belfort’s Wall Street life in a 2 minute and 15 second trailer couldn’t have been a difficult task, but with a tantalizing combination of quick cuts and music, structure, and a unique intro and outro, a second wasn’t wasted. More of this trailer is not enough. View the two trailers, the Grand Key Art Award winner released in June 2013, and the second full length trailer released on October 30.
