The music video for “Teenage Popstar Girl”, a track by Whisperado, is the winner of the best international music video at the London Independent Film Festival 2013. The subversive video follows an awkward tween who worships an impossibly perfect popstar, only to discover that her idol isn’t what she seems. According to director Daniel Azarian, “it’s a satiric tale in which singers and celebrities are pre-packaged and mass-marketed like plastic dolls. It’s basically a cautionary tale; the girl gets manipulated and seduced by a manufactured icon.”
Filming was shot by director/producer and visual effects artist Daniel Azarian via Underdog Entertainment, New York, with director of photography Milton Kam, associate producer Andrew Baris, choreographer Maurice Parent, makeup artist Jacqueline Catanese and stage set designer Russell Schramm.
The video stars Nichole Bogdanova as the fan, Mary O’Rourke as the Popstar, Tara Langella as the sinister record executive, Pete Maddocks and Marcin Paluch as her sidekicks, Alicia Tarry as Popstar 2.0, and Whisperado band members Jeff Lampert, Jon Sobel, David Mills and Patrick Nielsen Hayden. Daniel Azarian makes a cameo appearance.
