The Louis Vuitton-Yayoi Kusama 2012 limited edition book recently won a Yellow Pencil in the category of Brand Expression in Print. The limited edition book for Dover Street Market Ginza formed part of a wider collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and features images and works drawn from the last 50 years of Kusama’s career.
“An artist book to celebrate the Louis Vuitton-Yayoi Kusama 2012 collaboration, and inspired by Kusama’s symbolic polka dots that represent the ‘self-obliteration’ of one’s ego. Aside from silkscreen and die-cut production methods, the three-fold cover uses three different materials, including a paper that resembles the Louis Vuitton paper bag, and also a canvas material. The latter depicts the art canvas that Kusama uses for her drawings. The inside pages are printed on a paper stock that is meaningful to work, and successfully used for many of our print projects.”
The LV/Yayoi Kusama book was designed at WERK, Singapore, by designers Geraldine Chua and Ernest Ho, MAA, Farah Siman, design director Theseus Chan, photographers Kishin Shinoyama, Jean Marc Cedile and Bruno Asselot, with developer Ashu Nakanishiya.
