British human rights organisation Reprieve has produced a challenging film featuring Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) being force fed under standard Guantánamo Bay procedure. As Ramadan begins, more than 100 hunger-strikers in Guantánamo Bay continue their protest. More than 40 of them are being force-fed. No footage of actual force feeding in the prison has ever been released. This film is based on a leaked document setting out the military instructions, or standard operating procedure, for force-feeding detainees. Released on Monday, the video has gone viral, netting over two million online views in its first day, mostly through The Guardian’s Youtube channel.
The campaign was developed at Don’t Panic, London.
Filming was shot by director Asif Kapadia, producer David Morrissey, editor Chris King, co-producer Ben Ferguson, camera operators Martin Stirling, Jacob Proud, Henri Johnson, assistant director Martin Sterling, assistant editor Rafael Bettega, sound recordist Don Nelson at Rockwell Studios, London.
