Volkswagen has released an extended version of the Star Wars themed Super Bowl commercial being aired during the second quarter of the Super Bowl. “The Dog Strikes Back” features Bolt, an Australian Shepherd/St Bernard dog, inspired by the all-new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle to get in shape. The ad finishes with a scene set in the Cantina set of Star Wars: A New Hope, including a cameo appearance from Darth Vader. See our earlier story on the Dog Bark Side teaser.

The Dog Strikes Back campaign was developed at Deutsch, Los Angeles, by chief creative officer Mark Hunter, group creative directors Michael Kadin and Matt Ian, associate creative director/copywriter Brian Freidrich, associate creative director/art director Mark Peters, director of integrated production Vic Palumbo, director of broadcast production Victoria Guenier, senior producer Jim Haight, associate producer Marina Korzon, working with Volkswagen of America marketing team Tim Mahoney (chief product and and marketing officer), Brian Thomas (General Manager, Brand Marketing), Eric Wilson (Brand Marketing & Diversity Communications Manager).
Filming was shot by director Lance Acord via Park Pictures, Los Angeles, with executive producer Jackie Kelman Bisbee, executive producer/head of production Mary Ann Marino, line producer Pat Frazier.
