The Shore, a short film directed by Terry George, has been nominated for Best Short Film (live action) in the 2012 Academy Awards. The Shore, 30 minutes long, is the inspiring story of two boyhood best friends, Joe (Ciarán Hinds) and Paddy (Conleth Hill), who meet up 26 years after their world and their friendship was shattered by the conflict escalating in Northern Ireland. Joe returns for the first time to his homeland with his 24-year-old daughter, Patricia (Kerry Condon). In his absence Paddy has married Joe’s former fiancée Mary (Maggie Cronin). What happened all those years ago? Can old wounds be healed? The answer is in equal parts hilarious and moving.
