Volkswagen and DDB Berlin worked together to run “A Crash Course to Shine”, a viral video designed to warn young women about the dangers of putting on makeup while driving. Nikkie, a 16 year old haul video blogger from The Netherlands with over 200,000 Youtube subscribers, agreed to adapt one of her makeup tutorials to connect viewers with the shockingly high figure of half a million car crashes a year caused by women drivers applying makeup, in the UK alone. The message: “Don’t makeup and drive”. Launched in April 2012, the video was awarded Gold and Bronze Cyber Lion at 2012 Cannes International Festival of Creativity.

The Makeup campaign was developed at DDB Tribal Group, Berlin by chief creative officer Eric Schoeffler, creative directors Marc Isken and Nils Haseborg, art director Lilli Langenheim, copywriters Valerie von Meiss and Lennart Frank, account manager Christina Muller, agency producer Susi Schneider.
Filming was shot by director Milo (Christian Mielmann) via MR. BOB Films with producer Ben Foehr, artist/stylist Nikkie de Jager, project manager Hakan Cırak, editor Sebastian Gross, director of photography Michael Schreitel. The set was built by Croft Company.
