South Africa’s Minister of Public Enterprises, Malusi Gigaba, joins the citizens of Johannesburg night life in “49M Switching Off The Light”, a television commercial encouraging South Africans to switch off lights to save energy over the winter. The 49M national energy efficiency initiative, online at www.49m.co.za, is designed to drive awareness around the challenge of conserving electricity consumption during the winter months. In order to make the commercial look as authentic as possible, the entire commercial was shot every night from 6pm until 4am for a week, with as many effects as possible being shot in camera.

The 49M Switching Off The Light ad was developed at Saatchi & Saatchi South Africa, Johannesburg by executive creative director Liam Wielopolski, creative director Alison Standsfield-Franks, art director Steve Dirnberger, copywriter Kate Glover, agency producers Silke Gehring and Leigh-Ann Harris, business lead Zoe Willems, account manager Bernie Smit.
