Tropicana Oranges for Natural Energy

Tropicana France recently created a billboard powered entirely by oranges. 2500 oranges were attached to pins, linked up with two zinc and copper plates to produce an electrolysis process. With 0.7 volts generated by each fruit, 1800 volts were enough to illuminate the LEDS making up the words, “Energie Naturelle – Tropicana”. Afterwards, all the oranges were collected and reused in a compost or to produce biogas.

I Just can not help wondering how long these Oranges powered the billboard for, and what the the total power consumption of the LED’s.

However, it is a great advert. Well done to all involved.
