Nike Chosen

Nike has released a new commercial, “Chosen”, bringing together footage from skating, surfing, BMXing and snowboarding. The Chosen connects the “Just Do It” slogan to extreme sports in footage shot at night over two years in seven locations, Hawaii, Florida, New York, Los Angeles, Whistler, Aspen and Bali. 25 athletes do their thing, with lighting, pyrotechnics and stunts reminiscent of a rock concert. The campaign includes a contest, online on Facebook and at www.nike.com/chosen, inviting skaters, surfers, BMX riders, snowboarders and skiers to submit a video of their crew. The winners, selected by fans, athletes and Nike, will have the chance to travel with the Nike team while getting access to exclusive Nike products and experiences.

The Chosen campaign was developed at 72andSunny by executive creative directors John Boiler and Glenn Cole, designer Rob Teague, creative directors Jason Norcross and Matt Murphy, copywriter Cody Osborne, director of film production Sam Baerwald and producer Danielle Tarris, working with Nike global brand communications director Ean Lensch and global advertising director David Reti.

    Awesome commercial, great production values. But…this makes kids think it’s cool not to wear helmets. I’ve seen too many brain-damaged kids and even untimely deaths to take this lightly. Nike, what was the thinking behind this?
