TIME Magazine has named “Mourir Auprès de Toi (To Die By Your Side) as the most creative video of 2011. The animated video explores the nocturnal activities of book cover characters in Parisian bookstore Shakespeare and Company. Embroidery and felt are used to portray characters such as Mina Harker from Dracula, a skeleton from the cover of MacBeth, and a whale from Moby Dick.

The project started after Spike Jonze asked Olympia Le-Tan for a Catcher in the Rye embroidery to put on his wall. Le-Tan asked for a film in return. Enlisting French filmmaker Simon Cahn to co-direct, the team wrote the script between Los Angeles and Paris over a six month period, before working night and day animating the 3,000 pieces of felt Le-Tan had cut by hand.
Mourir Auprès de Toi was directed by Spike Jonze and Simon Cahn, with designer Olympia le Tan, producers Diane Jassem and Gregory Bernard at Realitism Films, Paris, director of photography Stephen Barcello (live action), producer Nicolas LHermitte at Hush, Paris, and producer Iconoclast(e).
Animation was produced at Manuel Cam, Paris, by director of animation Sylvain Derosne, animators Léonard Cohen, Emilie Sandoval and Julien Laval, and executive producer Jean Louis Padis.
SFX and post production were produced by digital colorist Fabien Feintrenie. The set was designed by Sylvain Derosne and Benjamin Fanni. Costume design was by Kiriko Sato assisted by Kengo Sata.
Starring in the film are Pierre Le Tan as bookseller, Soko as Mina, and Spike Jonze as MacBeth.
