Mozilla is celebrating the success of the Firefox 4 browser release with an infographic unpacking the significance of 15.85 million downloads in 48 hours, featured on the Mozilla blog. The desktop browser was launched on March 23, competing as an alternative to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9. Within 24 hours of being announced it had been downloaded 7.1 million times. This was in addition to the more than 3 million people who were already running the beta version. Firefox 4 is being promoted as “blazingly fast and cleverly intuitive to use”. The new browser will be delivered consistently across desktops and mobile devices when Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo is launched in the next two weeks.
Mozilla, in the meantime, is continuing to use its own site to present colourful illustrations centred around the animal theme begun with the firefox (red panda).
