1000 Cranes for Japan

BBDO/Proximity offices in Tokyo, Canada and Singapore have joined together to create 1000 Cranes for Japan, an interactive site designed to bring encouragement to survivors of the earthquake and Pacific tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th, 2011. Colleagues in Japan reported that, more than anything, they needed to hear words of support from their friends around the world. The terrible situation in the North of Japan needs practical support. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes (千羽鶴, Senbazuru) will be granted a wish by a crane, such as recovery from illness or injury. As a global community BBDO is calling on colleagues to fold not just 1000, but thousands upon thousands of cranes with individual messages that we stand together with the people of Japan in their time of need.

The site, www.1000cranes4japan.org, provides opportunities for visitors to leave messages of empathy and solidarity. BBDO/Proximity offices are donating funds through Red Cross. The site provides a link to the Google Crisis Response page, which links to Japanese Red Cross Society, UNICEF, International Medical Corps and Save The Children.

This collaborative effort was led by BBDO/Proximity offices in Tokyo, Canada and Singapore.
