MTV Portugal promoted their run of the Famous Crime Scene series with a print advertising campaign focusing on the tragic deaths of John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and gangsta rappas The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Each magazine advertisement features a collection of cartoon speech bubbles associated with answers to the questions: “Why did you kill John Lennon?” “Michael What Killed You?” “Tupac and B.I.G., who killed who?” “Marvin Gaye was your son. How could you have killed him?” Mark David Chapman answers by saying a book told him to kill Lennon, a reference to Catcher In The Rye. “Music never dies. Doubts neither.”
The Famous Crime Scenes campaign was developed at Leo Burnett Lisboa, Lisbon, by chief creative officer Chacho Puebla, executive creative director/illustrator Renato Lopes, executive creative director Erick Rosa, copywriter Steve Colmar, art director/typographer/illustrator Pedro Hefs, illustrators Daniel Rosini, Caio Lekecinskas and Radu Noper, creative advisor Tura, client account director Marta Caiero, agency account director Tiago “Master” Reis.
The Famous Crime Scenes campaign won a Bronze Lion at Cannes.
