Google Snowmobile on Whistler Blackcomb

Google has launched “Street View” imagery of the slopes on Whistler Blackcomb Mountains, using a snowmobile decked out with cameras to produce the amazing views of the ski fields used in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Views include the top of 7th Heaven chairlift on Blackcomb, the peak of Whistler, the top of the Dave Murray downhill and the Peak 2 Peak gondalla. Whistler Village and Whistler Creekside, at the mountain’s bases, were filmed using the Street View trike.

The Games10 site, available in 40 lanauges, provides combined up-to-date medal counts, news, event results and event schedules with rich visuals: 3D models and Street View imagery of the competition venues, plus new aerial imagery of the Vancouver-Whistler area. The features are also included in an iGoogle gadget, too. The site visitors with real-time search results for the Games, local experts’ Favourite Places and a special Picasa Web Albums gallery of featured photos from Vancouver, some submitted by users with the wintergames2010 tag, and others from Google News.
