Budweiser brought the Clydesdales back to the Super Bowl in 2010 with “Fences”, a commercial celebrating the connection between friends. A young Clydesdale horse and a young calf become childhood friends only to discover that they’re separated by a fence. It’s not until three years later that the now fully grown bull has the capacity to break through the barriers between them. The Fences ad was developed at DDB Chicago by group creative director Barry Burdiak, creative director John Hayes, creative director/art director Steve Bougdanos, creative director/copywriter Patrick Knoll, executive director of integrated production Diane Jackson, executive producer Will St. Clair, and agency producer Patty Phassos.
Filming was shot by director Joe Pytka via Pytka, Los Angeles, with executive producer Tara Fitzpatrick and producer Michele Atkins.
Special effects were produced at Filmworkers Club, Chicago, by executive producer Mary O’Gara, Lead VFX Artist Rob Churchill, Inferno artists Rick Thompson, Heidi Anderson, and Justin Winkler and Combustion artist Chris Ryan.
