Avon Foundation for Women has joined with the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation to launch the Love/Avon Army of Women. The initiative challenges the scientific community to include healthy women in research into breast cancer, and has set out to recruit one million healthy women of every age and ethnicity, including breast cancer survivors and women at high-risk for the disease, to partner with breast cancer researchers. To get the word out the Love/Avon Army of Women team set up a contest film students from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and New York University’s Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television the opportunity to propose their ideas for a Public Service Announcement (PSA) video that would encourage one million women of all ages and ethnicities from across the nation to sign up and be part of the Army of Women movement. Visitors to the Glamour site could vote on which PSA was the most empowering.
Four finalists were chosen from 25 submissions, each receiving a $5,000 budget to create a PSA video. The winner was “Million in the Mirror”, by Marc Parees and Ryan Silbert of New York University’s Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television. The production’s largely NYU crew included Jeremy Brunjes as Director of Photography, Parees as Director and Silbert and Mollye Asher as producers.
