The Chestnut Tree
Director Hyun-Min Lee is the director behind The Chestnut Tree, a short film featured in the YouTube Screening Room. The hand-drawn animation, set to music by Chopin, explores her childhood memories of life with her mother in South Korea, won the 2008 Annie Award for Best Short Subject.
The four minute video shows a grown woman lying on her bed, surrounded by pictures of her childhood memories. She rises as a young girl and re-enters the world in which she is with her mother.

The Chestnut Tree was developed by director/animator/editor Hyun-min Lee, with director of photography Dan Larsen, music producer So-yun Kim, executive producer Don Hahn and producers Bert and Jennifer Klein at Picnic Pictures.
Music is Chopin’s Mazurka in D Major, performed by So Yun Kim, recorded by Owen Vallis.
