Starbucks Via Taste Challenges
Starbucks is introducing Via Instant Coffee with a television advertising campaign launched originally on Saturday Night Live. The spot tells us that people who yell at town hall meetings can’t taste the difference. Can you? (Shown originally on Saturday Night Live, 09/26/09)
Starbucks says that their researchers found people across the country cannot tell the difference between Starbucks VIA and their fresh-brewed coffee. Jim Edwards suggests that the ads are getting up the noses of US political conservatives who smell criticism of their behavior at town meetings on health care.
Starbucks is betting that nurses can’t taste the difference, along with yellow belts, people who look like their pets, civil war re-enactors, as well as people who yell at town meetings.
