I hope Rio or any place other than Chicago gets the 2016 Olympics. I live in Chicago and since the beginning of this Olympic campaign here our lives have been miserable. The Olympics and revenue raising for the city have become top priorities at the expense of law enforcement and other city services. The street gangs here now own the streets and police response time to violent crimes is so slow that the gangs know they can create murder and mayhem with impunity.
The gangs here are now consolidationg their power and by 2016 no entity will be in a position to challenge them. I suppose the city will have to incorporate them into the police somehow, just as the insurgent groups were incorporated in Iraq. Incidently, most of the proposed Olympic facilities are in the most dangerous parts of Chicago. Does anyone seriously believe that this city will be any safer than Rio, consdiering the direction they are now headed? Maybe it will be safer than Mogadishu, but I am not even so sure about that.
Elias,
I lived down the road from Stratford in London. events there strongly reflect everything you’ve described about Chicago (except guns are less common and far less used). A friend once told me that there’s only one way to have people’s respect: Take it. this is true for all members of society. The good people had better start asserting themselves ‘en force’. However, being ordinary humans they will want leadership. Therefore, Elias, study the qualilties of a leader and become that leader. you can change many things for the better.
“Incidently, most of the proposed Olympic facilities are in the most dangerous parts of Chicago.”
Good god, no they are not. Give me a break. Do you actually live here? I too am against the Olympics btw, but you are wrong.
