British telecommunications group O2 is promoting its Top Up Surprises offer with a television, online, print and outdoor advertising campaign featuring yellow rubber ducks. Every time an 02 Pay & Go customer tops up their mobile they are given a code which allows them to play a game of hook a duck at www.02.co.uk/surprises and have the chance to win anything from free texts to LCD TVs and laptops. (For those who are having trouble entering their code, go to the Surprises site, click on “Play Now” and you’ll find a screen where you can enter a mobile phone number and code. Tick on the image beside the text “I agree to the terms and conditions”. Now click on “Log In”. )
The tag line used across the campaign is “Surprises of all sizes, every time you top up”.
March of the Ducks
The TV advert shows the journey of the campaign’s rubber ducks from the Antarctic to the Amazon and finally to a pond in the UK where they are hooked by a fisherman.

Pedestrians will notice specially fitted bus stops with panels filled with water and ducks that quack as they walk past, thanks to their sonic sensors.
O2 have developed an exclusive tie-up with the social networking site, Bebo, in which members who become friends with ‘O2 Top-up Surprises’ will be able to win ‘luv’ by spotting hidden ducks around the Bebo site.

Hi ive just been on to collect my silver rewards and ive hooked all the ducks in the first two rows and the prise is all the same prise MMS for a week, then i looked on the suprises for all of silverrewards, ive no idea where the other prises are.

Silver prizes are crap, i have just won 2 days free brousing, i am not interested in brousing, but it would be good if they gave you a choice of prize like something you could use eg. a number of free txt or minutes talk time.
Gold prizes are just as bad, i won a 2 for 1 meal voucher at a restaurant which was offering that deal to anyone with or without a voucher….what a con!!!!!!!

i have been with o2 for longer than 7yrs, and had no complaints, but in the last 6 months your prizes have gone down hill, im not interested in prizes i have to pay deposits on , food i cant eat , places i don’t want to go!!!!!!!!, bring back free txt , free call time, things which are actually useful!! I feel that this latest 02 “Publicity campaign” is only going to drive customers away to other network providers. Useless prizes and lots of cons.

O2 surprises are absolutely shite, totally useless prizes like theatre tickets and “makeovers” etc, does anyone ever win anything usefull? The latest version of the stupid duck game doesnt even let you have the dubious “pleasure” of playing the game , after entering your code you are straight away given a list of crap to choose from, if you dont like any of them “tough tit. Will be changing my provider after Chrimbo, dont like being had off.

Before I went onto play the Gold Game I read some of the comments and thought surely the prizes can’t be that bad ? However they were !! All were absolutely useless, a load of rubbish. Surely O2 must take note of what has been said I mean I cannot see one comment that is in the least favourable.

After trying to use the gun to fill up the container for five minutes, I realised it just wasn’t going to happen. The game does not work. However, I went on to the non-flash version (which was recommended on an O2 message board) and typed in my mobile number and the code and received a choice of ‘rewards’ -- not as much fun but at least I don’t feel so cheated. I just wanted to comment on the “surprises”. I used to get really useful stuff like free texts or cheaper calls now I get money off for stuff I don’t want -- meals at places I don’t go and money off stuff I’d have to pay quite a lot for to get anything. Rubbish!! I don’t want music downloads or a fiver off thirty quids worth of sports gear. I don’t want anything from Prezzybox. Just stick to the phone offers. Otherwise just make the calls cheaper and don’t bother with catch penny gimics.
I,ve just looked at the surprises and everyone costs 02 nothing or a couple of pence it is a con. You get a personnel trainer free if your a member of a gym and if not you aint gonna use it interflora will knock 5 pounds of flowers if you ask. come on 02 it is time to stop ripping your customers off with this con either get rid off it completely or improve the prizes
