Emerald Nuts Flashbacks Banish the 3pm Slump

Emerald Nuts continues its campaign to beat the 3 pm Slump in a new series of “Flashbacks” television commercials directed by Baker Smith. The ads are a follow-up to the offbeat 2007 Office Boogeyman television commercial featuring Robert Goulet.

“What were you thinking?” So asks the hostess who has been sucked out of an airplane due to the unthinking actions of a man low on brain energy.

2703 prisoners escape from prison, all due to the 3 pm slump.


A therapist is found sitting on a chair in a burning building, at 3.35 pm. “Sir, how did this happen?”, asks one of the firemen. “Never commit arson. Not even once”.


The Flashbacks to the Horrific Consequences of not eating Emerald Nuts at 3pm campaign was created at Goodby, Silverstien & Partners by creative directors Jeff Goodby and Steve Simpson, copywriter Erik Enberg, art director Will Hammond and agency producer James Horner.

Filming was shot in Los Angeles Womens Prison, Universal Studios, and 10,000 feet in the air above Perris, California, by Baker Smith via Harvest Films with executive producer Bonnie Goldfarb and Scott Howard, head of production Rob Sexton, director of photography Tony Wolberg and line producer Mala Vasan.

Editor was Geoff Hounsel at Arcade Edit. VFX were developed at MPC (The Moving Picture Company) by Lead Flame artist/VFX supervisor Franck Lambertz. Music was produced at HUM.
