Clean Coal Air Freshener

Environmental action group This Is Reality critiques political rhetoric on clean coal in this spoof spot directed by the Coen Brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen. A polished salesman introduces a family to “Clean Coal Air Freshener”, a product in an aerosol can with the ability to make the air just that little bit cleaner (not).

According to This Is Reality the coal industry has spent millions misleading people into thinking their product is “clean.” In reality, they claim, burning coal is responsible for a third of America’s carbon pollution – the chief cause of global warming – and not a single coal plant in America captures and safely stores this pollution.

The Clean Coal Air Freshener campaign was developed at Crispin Porter & Bogusky by executive creative directors Andrew Keller and Rob Reilly, creative director Ryan Kutscher, associate creative director Paul Caiozzo, art director Santiago Escobar, copywriter Donnell Johnson, executive agency producer Chris Kyriakos, producer Ron Neter, integrated art director Javier Torok, head of broadcast Matt Bonin.

Filming was shot by directors Joel and Ethan Coen via Company Films with executive producers Robin Benson, Richard Goldstein, head of production Robert Nackman, director of photography Dan Hainey, and producer Ron Neter.

Editorial work was done at Arcade Edit. Post production was done at Method Studios. Telecine was produced at Company 3. Music was produced at Q Department.
