Barack Obama’s recent visit to Beijing was marked by Chinese artist Liu Bolin’s presentation of “Burning Man Obama”, a flaming bust. Bolin explains his thinking behind the sculpture by referring to traditional Chinese values. “Fiery flames are one of the “Twelve Symbols” found on Chinese Imperial robes. It represents the Summer Solstice and the renewable energy of the emperor himself.”
