Volkswagen commissioned a South African team to produce “Dream”, a television commercial highlighting the addictive nature of the GTI driving experience. The ad won Gold at the London International Awards for best use of music, along with Silver for editing. A young man lies in bed, dreaming about driving his Volkswagen GTI. Sensations from his room change the nature of the dream. His blaring alarm clock becomes the fire engine driving towards him. The sound of running water from his partner’s shower brings him into a rain storm. A hair dryer presents the sound for a drive through a tunnel…

GTI Dream was developed at Ogilvy, Cape Town by executive creative director Gordon Ray, art director Jamie Mietz and agency producer Emma Lundy.
Filming was shot by director Greg Gray via Velocity Films, Cape Town, with director of photography Paul Gilpin, producer Helena Woodfine.
Editing was done by Ricky Boyd via Deliverance.
Music, the 1983 Eurythmics track “Sweet Dreams”, was re-recorded by Theo Crous at Bellville Studios.
