GlaxoSmithKline won awards in South Africa in 2005 with a print advertising campaign for acne cream treatment Oxy, featuring beauty and fashion jewelery. Bhindi, the award-winning advertisement, features a woman wearing a red bhindi (or bindi) which in Hindu custom indicates that she’s married. Only problem is that the spot is slightly off centre.
The Oxy campaign was developed at Ogilvy South Africa by creative director Gerry Human, art directors Daryn Moore, Karin Barry, copywriter Neo Mashigo, with photographer Jason Robinson. Bhindi won a silver award at the 2005 Loerie Awards.
