Osocio on Social Advertising

Today’s Site of the Day is Osocio, (osocio.org) a community blog dedicated to social advertising and non-profit campaigns, bringing together marketing and activism. Formerly known as the Houtlust Blog, Osocio has become a hub for advertisers, ad agencies, grassroots, activists, social entrepreneurs, and good Samaritans from around the globe.

The original site, Houtlust, was founded by Marc van Gurp in October 2005, a personal collection of non-profit ads. His first posts were written in Dutch but soon the demand grew for an English version. Marc is a web designer at Dutch web site Adformatie.

In late 2007 the site was given a makeover and moved to a new domain, with support from interactive agency Onstuimig and branding professional Alef de Jong. The Houtlust site had been hosted on the XS4ALL blogging domain and needed to break free to have its identity much clearer. Instead of moving to Marc’s Dutch domain Houtlust, the site became Osocio, reflecting the formation of a blogging community including new team members Armando Alves, Dan Matutina, Gillo Cutrupi, James David Morgan, Jeroen Tiebout, Kate Andrews, Liz Losh, Noah Scalin, and Serge Fenenko.
