Optus continues its sponsorship advertising deal with the annual Australian Open tennis championship with TV ads featuring tennis players and elephants. The first ad, a 30 second spot released in the summer of 2006, featured Australian tennis player Sam Stosur being drenched by an elephant on court. Stosur attempts to return the favour. The tagline, “Supporting Australian tennis every way we can”.

In 2007 the Optus campaign showed oversized humans dwarfing elephants, with the tagline “We’re helping Australian tennis grow”. This year Optus has launched a new TV ad in the series, featuring a player returning balls to what at first appears to be a serving machine. The camera moves to suggest that he’s been facing the work of an elephant.
