Make a Whale Tail

IFAW has launched an integrated campaign in Australia, Project 551, aimed at mobilising the Australian public in lobbying Japan to stop harvesting whales. Members of the public are being invited to take a photograph of themselves making a whale tail with their hands. Photographs are being edited together to make television commercials and a book which will be presented to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

The name 551 is based on the fact that last season the Government of Japan killed 551 whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

It’s great that the Japanese Government is held responsible for threatening the endangered whales, but remember Australians have the highest carbon emissions on a per capita basis and climate change is threatening the existence of thousands of endangered species such as polar bears.
