Britney Spears has won three awards at the MTV Video Music Awards 2008 for her Pieces of Me music video: Video Of The Year, Best Female Video, and Best Pop Video.
Piece of Me features Britney Spears and the way in which her image has been formed by the paparazzi. While she appears in public wearing skimpy clothes she attempts to replace lurid tabloid stories with her own hopes and desires. Britney dreams of having the last word instead of being the victim of perverted photographers and reporters. She surrounds herself with blonde lookalikes, appearing in force and overcoming the overwhelming impact of the press crowd.
The song, written by Swedish duo Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg (Bloodshy & Avant or Böz o lö), and Klas Åhlund, was turned into film by director Wayne Isham, who worked with Spears on the “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” and in the international Pepsi commercial campaign in 2002. Filming was shot on November 27 and November 28, 2007, at Hollywood nightclub and restaurant, Social Hollywood.
The music video is found online at the official Britney Spears YouTube channel and has reached the status of the thirteenth most viewed video ever on YouTube, despite being only available in certain countries.
