Bigpond I’ve Been Everywhere Man

Telstra Bigpond advertised its Wireless Broadband network in 2006 with Road Trip, a TV ad featuring the song, I’ve Been Everywhere”. Friends in a Volkswagen Kombi (Combi or Transporter) sing “I’ve been everywhere man”. A passenger, frustrated with the repetition of the chorus, uses wireless internet to access the rest of the lyrics on his computer. The driver’s son asks if they’re going to get broadband.

The Bigpond Road Trip ad was developed at Sydney advertising agency BWM.

Filming was directed by Simon Frost at Plaza Films, now at Republic Films.

Film was edited at Winning Post. Post production was developed at The Lab, Sydney.

The driver is played by relatively unknown actor Patrick O’Meara. See my earlier post on the Great Wall of China Rabbits ad.

The song, “I’ve been everywhere”, featuring the names of Australian towns, was written by Geoff Mack in 1959 and made popular by the singer Lucky Starr (Leslie Morrison) in 1962. The song was later adapted by Mack for North American and New Zealand audiences, made popular in the Northern Hemisphere first by Hank Snow and later by Johnny Cash.
