Subaru Legacy Goes Surf To Summit

Subaru New Zealand promoted the Legacy as the ideal vehicle for the outdoor sports activists, using the car as the vehicle of choice for a trip from the beach to the mountains and home again. At 6.30 am at the Catlins, Southland, a group of travellers pulls up in a Subaru Legacy to watch champion surfer Maz Quinn take on the East Coast waves. At 10.30 am they’re up in Skippers Canyon with Steve Gurney to see Rosara Joseph mountain biking. At 3.30 pm they’re on Aoraki Mt Cook, led by champion free skier Hamish Acland. By 7.30 pm they’re on the journey home. One machine let’s you experience it all.

Subaru Surf to Summit


The Surfer – Maz Quinn is four-times New Zealand National Surf Champion. Maz is a New Zealand surfing legend being the first New Zealander to ever qualify and compete in the World Championship Tour. Maz lives at Wainui Beach in Gisborne and spends many months each year chasing the eternal summer around the world.

The Mountain Biker – Rosara Joseph is the 2006 Oceania Cross Country Mountain Bike Champion. She won the Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Rosara is also an academic achiever holding an LLB (Hons) from Canterbury University and is currently a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, England.

The Freeskier – Hamish Acland is the New Zealand National Freeskiing Champion. Hamish achieved a career high ranking of number five in the world in his chosen discipline of Freeskiing. Hamish hails from Mount Somers in Canterbury but spends a large part of the year chasing the eternal winter in exotic locations like Switzerland, Colorado, and Treble Cone in Queenstown.

The Guide – Steve Gurney also makes an appearance in the commercial as the groups guide for the Mountain Bike segment. Steve is a long time Subaru Ambassador “The Outback Man”, and multisport legend having won the Coast to Coast titles a phenomenal nine times.
