Skoda Sand Car on Sydney beach

Skoda has launched an Australian television campaign using a team of internationally acclaimed sand sculptors to create a Skoda Octavia made of sand. The life-size sand car, complete with its own engine and dashboard, took the team over five days to build at Sydney’s Palm Beach, and used over 60 tons of sand. The stunt and its associated ad continue the spirit of the Skoda UK advertising campaign in which a Skoda Fabia car was made out of cake.

“We needed to find a way of communicating the craftsmanship, design of Skoda cars and the brand’s arrival in Australia in a simple and clever way. We think we have nailed it and are looking forward to the final result,” said Matthew Wiesner, head of Skoda.

The Skoda Sand Car campaign was developed at The Works, Sydney, by creative director Kevin Macmillan, business director Justine Rosen, business manager Renee Small, art director Kevin Tierney, copywriter Ben Coverdale. Filming was shot by director Kevin Macmillan and producer Craig Bolles at Mosaic Films.

Media agencies were Fusion Strategy and Mediacompete.
