The Killers When You Were Young

Las Vegas synth band, The Killers, have launched their up and coming album, Sam’s Town, with the music video, “When You Were Young”. The music video focuses on the heartache of a young religious Mexican woman who discovers her husband’s infidelity.

‘When You Are Young’ opens on a hilltop overlooking the small Mexican town of Tlayacapan. A young woman climbs to a white cross, clearly agonising. Is she intending to jump? A man drives up in a jeep and rushes to her side. They are clearly upset. Over the course of the video we see shots of the couple meeting, courting, and marrying. We see her memories of his unfaithfulness, and her attempts to pray for help in the local church.

The Killers perform in a local brothel, singing, “He doesn’t look a thing like Jesus”, warning the woman that she’s asking for trouble by continuing with him. The clip finishes with the cross on the hill, the couple embracing in sorrow.
