Maria Sharapova, who has just reached the top eight in the US Open tennis tournament, has been featured in a TV ad for Nike this last month. Sharapova showcases her Nike performance tennis dress, designed for her day-time appearances in the 2006 US Open in New York. The 60 second and 30 second ads have been aired since August 20. As Sharapova travels from her hotel room to the Arthur Ashe Stadium, those around her take it in turn to sing the West Side Story hit, “I’m so pretty”. Throughout the journey, Sharapova remins focused on the task at hand, winning the game. The final scene has her facing a serve, returning it with a grunt. The super: “Just Do It. Nike”.
Appearing in the crowd are by tennis Hall of Fame inductee John McEnroe, his brother and captain of the 2004 U.S. Men’s Olympic tennis team, Patrick McEnroe, and two-time tennis Olympic gold medalist Mary Joe Fernandez. Click on the image below to play the video in YouTube (HD)

The Nike Sharapova campaign was developed by advertising agency Wieden & Kennedy, Portland by creative director Steve Luker, copywriter Alberto Ponte and Sheena Brady, art director Mira Kaddoura, and agency producer Robyn Boardman. Wieden & Kennedy’s home is not too far from the home of Nike, Beaverton, Oregon.
Filming was directed by Ivan Zacharias with Smuggler, with director of photography Bob Raggozine, executive producers Nick Landon, Patrick Milling Smith and Brian Carmody.
Editor was Filip Malasek at Robota.
Post production and VFX were done at The Mill.
