Mastercard Oxfam and Gorgeous Alpacas Unwrap Christmas

Mastercard has teamed up with Oxfam to promote Oxfam Unwrapped, a Christmas gift campaign launched online at oxfamunwrapped.com/alpaca and on British televisions on December 14. The 60 second TV advert features a range of Peruvian alpacas posing to the sounds of Baby Bird’s 1996 song, “You’re Gorgeous”. The ad explains that a purchase of an alpaca from Oxfam Unwrapped helps farmers buy and care for Alpacas. 82% of the purchase goes to help the beneficiary. “Alpaca package: £20. Oxfam Unwrapped Christmas Project

The Oxfam Unwrapped Christmas project provides alternatives to consumer-oriented Christmas shopping. Online shoppers can buy a gift to help a community overcome poverty. Options include goats, donkey or animal care kits, toilets, safe water, teacher training, textbooks, school desks and chairs, counseling sessions, HIV awareness events, radios, condom kits, mosquito nets, buckets, emergency shelters, tree planting, fertiliser, fishing nets.

Your gift of fishing nets, alpaca package, training a farmer, a market stall, a farm to market make-over, mango saplings, a plot of farming land, a livelihood for a village or starting a small business may also be used to support other initiatives that give people the chance to earn a living, designed to offer a sustainable income to those who need it most.
