Bernard Fanning I just want to wish you well

Bernard Fanning’s first solo single, “Wish You Well”, was released as a music video on September 26, 2005, promoting Fanning’s album, Tea and Sympathy. Fanning, the lead singer of Brisbane band, Powderfinger, took a break in 2005 to record the album and film three music videos.

‘Wish You Well’ begins with Fanning in a cream suit sitting among his possessions in the middle of a forest track. He’s holding a framed picture that has taken in a scene from the forest. As he stands and holds the picture to the camera, we see picture has morphed to include Fanning and the empty chair. All the possessions are gone.

As Fanning continues to walk towards the viewer, a young woman in green picks up the empty frame – becoming incorporated in the picture. The picture changes to feature Fanning’s lyric, “Love is Dead”.

A young man joins the procession with his own frame, incorporating a light shade in his picture. In the background another man walks past with his own frame.

Fanning is joined by another man and woman. He hands over his frame to the man and walks out of the camera, continuing in the man’s picture.

Two girls in black dresses join the team, bringing with them picture frames that portray zebra heads on tree trunks.

Now Fanning’s back, holding his frame again, but with his picture upside down. The girls flip their frames to show side shots of Fanning, “Warmth”, “Bell”, a lion, a giraffe, a candlestick holder, a lantern.

Now it’s Fanning alone again, placing his picture frame back among the possessions he began with.
