Toyota Can’t Wait For Tomorrow

The Toyota ‘can’t wait for tomorrow’ ad continues to haunt Australian televisions, with its Tchaikovsy ballet-like music and charming sense of anticipation. Launched back in April/May 2005, the ad was designed by Publicis Mojo Australia to rebrand Toyota as the mystical, innovative, environmentally friendly car of the future.

The key 60 second spot was shot in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We start with a young boy looking into the window of a city shop. His mother grabs his hand and leads him home to bed. We see the city shutting down for the night. There’s an excitement about tomorrow that could beat waiting for Santa Claus! Finally the last light goes out. We’re given the assurance of a future that is cleaner, safer and more exciting. The ad finishes with a shot of Toyota’s Sportivo Coupe.

The Can’t Wait for Tomorrow campaign was developed at Publicis Mojo Australia by creative director/copywriter Darren Spiller, copywriter Sean Larkin and art director Ruth Bellotti, agency producer Corey Esse, account supervisor Noel Magnus, working with Toyota marketing team Peter Evans and Andrew Cale.

Filming was shot by Robert Logevall via Anonymous Content with director of photography Tobias Schliessler, Prodigy Films producer Nigel Kenneally, executive producer Jonathan Samway.

Post Production was done by Animal Logic.

On site work in Buenos Aires was done by Altana Films Argentina.

Editor was Drew Thompson at Guillotine.

Gusto Music, providers of the entrancing soundtrack, feature the ad as part of their 2005 show reel (Flash).

The advertisement is picked up ‘in spirit’ at the Toyota Tomorrow mini site.
